Geiranger, Norway

I’ll spare you any lengthy commentary here from Geiranger, Norway. I can’t begin to properly describe the natural & majestic beauty – the photos will speak for themselves. With only 250 residents, this place is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the world, and has been named the best travel destination in Scandinavia by Lonely Planet. Since 2005, the Geirangerfjord area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Geiranger itself is just a small tourist village in the western part of Norway. It lies in Stranda at the head of the Geirangerfjorden, which is a branch of the large Storfjorden. The nearest city is Alesund. The locals here tell us that they’re under constant threat from the mountain Akerneset which could erode into the fjord. A collapse could cause a tsunami that would destroy the entire downtown area.
It’s no surprise – this is the third biggest cruise ship port in Norway and they say they greet between 140 - 180 ships during the four-month tourist season between May & early September. Having said that, there’s only one dock large enough to accommodate a ship of our size and unfortunately, there was an NCL ship who claimed it first this morning, so we had to anchor and take tenders to shore.

There are five hotels, about a dozen camping sites, and unlimited, breathtaking scenery.

I can only and very sincerely say…I thank the Lord for allowing me to live long enough to experience the beauty. Without question, one of His greatest creations! Absolutely amazing...
