Cadiz, Spain

After a full day & night at sea, we entered the harbor of Cadiz before sunrise.

No sail-in photos, though I was up and outside when the pilot boat pulled alongside. This is our second visit here, the first in 2012. Cadiz is the oldest continuously inhabited city on the Iberian Peninsula, serving as the home port to the Spanish Navy since the 18th century. The city itself lies on a narrow stretch of land surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, and since our last visit, many improvements were noted during our stay. Still intact is Old Town, which is nestled within the remnants of the ancient city walls and the cozy, windy streets and historic architecture.

I woke Cheryl about 6:30, and we went up to the Lido for a casual breakfast by the aft pool. We had no formal plans except to head for the city and explore as you'll see in the many photos. We really put some miles on our shoes today! The temps were great with a nice sea breeze to keep us fairly cool. We stopped for cold beers mid-morning in one of the beautiful parks along the boardwalk, and then around 2:00 had pizza (and more beer) at one of the many sidewalk cafes in Old Town. For a Tuesday, we were amazed at the number of people at the beaches and in the parks. The new construction since our last visit is quite impressive - primarily enhancements in the commercial retail areas and the multiple dwelling units along the coastline.

We were back on the ship by 4:30, just in time to shower and dress for our 5:30 dinner seating. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we truly enjoy our tablemates and once again we were among the last to leave the dining room. We decided to skip the entertainment this evening - (some local flamingo dancers being brought onboard) - and instead, retire to our cabin, update the photos from today and post. We're scheduled to set sail at 10:00 tonight for Gibraltar, and we'll probably be fast asleep long before - no partying tonight - we're pretty pooped!
