Temps once again in the low 50’s this morning – we’ve had to unpack all of our jeans & jackets! Katakolon (Olympia) Greece is a very picturesque seaside town overlooking the Ionian Sea. We opted out of a formal tour and just decided to relax today. We walked about 6 miles through the city & residential areas, then down to the beach & followed the shore all the way back to the ship. Just adjacent to the pier is a huge shopping area and dozens of cafes on the waterfront. We sat on a terrace next to the water with several friends and had a few beers along with authentic Greek Baklava & Gyros – it was very relaxing to just sit, talk & people-watch. Two other ships docked after we arrived so this little city was invaded with about 7,000 tourists! One ship is headed to India, the other Croatia – the passengers are predominantly French & Italian – all were interested in our world tour as their cruises ranged from 10 – 14 days. We’re now on day #96…it was funny to us that the elevators on our ship all have carpets with the day of the week embossed – changed daily, obviously. We didn’t realize it at the time, but after a few weeks, you truly do lose all track of time & what day of the week it is. I can’t begin to tell you how many times we get on an elevator and I’ll say to Cheryl, “is today really Wednesday”? On April Fool Day, the ship’s crew mixed-up the carpets on the elevators so if you went to a bank of elevators next to each other, they each had a different day of week displayed – quite comical. The razor-wire that had been installed around the ship was removed in Athens and the guards are now gone – very grateful we were able to sail through Somalian waters without incident. 
Our stay in Olympia was brief – really not too much to see here though we enjoyed our leisurely stroll and talking with a few of the local folks. We set sail at 4pm and are scheduled to arrive in Messina, Italy tomorrow morning at 11am. We have a 7-hour tour booked. Weather forecast is partly cloudy, with a high of 68 – getting better!
